Meet my basket.
I first laid eyes on this basket about a year ago at TJ Maxx Homegoods. It was love at first site. Oh, and did I mention it was only $22? Amazing. Anyway, I knew instantly that this basket's fate was to become a gorgeous and dramatic pendant light.
Love!
All you need is a trip to Home Depot and a power drill. Although, I have to admit that I was lucky enough to have my unsuspecting father in town for this project. So, in between being run ragged by his two demanding granddaughters, his own daughter put him to work on building her a light fixture.
We love it when Papa visits! xo
Carefully drill a hole through the basket. Thread the wire through the chain, the canopy hook and the threaded rod.
You can skip the canopy, but it's cheap and it helps the basket hang level. It's also a nice touch when you look up inside the light. Follow instructions for socket assembly and connect from underneath. Honestly, really pretty simple ... says the girl who made her dad do it!! Ha! But really - I watched. Not hard, I promise.
Voila!
In the case that you don't happen to have the perfect basket lying around just waiting to fulfill it's lighted destiny, here are a few other ideas with pendant potential...
Very cool with mercury dipped or exposed filiment bulbs. Both are made from aluminum and therefore pretty easy to drill. I would skip the canopy with these.
Target Privet House Small Storage Box $14.98
Target Milk Crate Vintage Dark Brown $24.99
RH Baby & Child Industrial Trash Can $60
The trash can is made from zinc so it might require a bit more muscle.
Good luck!!
